And anyway, why hold until the bitter end when you could sell and buy all sorts of stuff back cheap with cash some day?

Problem is, that assumes folks can find the bottom. The only thing worse than hanging on while it goes down, down, down, is bailing out, only to find that you got out at the bottom. So, not only did you get killed on the way down, but you miss the ride back up.
