Now this is really cool...

My stepson set up his other computer running Linux (Red Hat version 2.2.5) as an IP masquerading (the Linux box is a gateway to the internet and provide a direct connection to the internet). So rather than using his computer as a proxy, all the computers in the house can use the linux box as the interent connection simultaneaously. The firewall resides on the linux box and now I don't need multiple phone lines as the feed to the linux box is the cable connection. What was really cool though was that I was able to send and receive my Earthlink email through the Mediaone cable connection - there must be some setup between them or something, as that was totally unexpected. not sure what I will do with the other phone lines right now, though...but hey, every computer is now running at cable modem speeds! Cool!

Of course, my wife was not pleased that we now have 75 feet of ethernet cable running through the house to his rooms. Her only comment was, "Couldn't you have at least gotten a mauve cable to match the rug instead of gray?..."

Ok back to watching the market's paint dry at lightning speeds...
