It is my view that the always on server customer will have a defacto advantage over any dial up (PPP type) service. When ADSL becomes more widespread, then this problem will become more exacerbated, causing more ADSL service demand ya da ya da ya da. Any comments on my observations?

Yes, Ken, this is consistent my hypothesis -- so I completely agree with you. I know that PacBell is desirous weaning its residential customers who rely on its ISDN switching network primarily for Internet access off ISDN & onto IDSL when its deployed next month (so I've been told. And from the problems I've been experiencing of late I would say they're doing a pretty good job of it.

As far as the first portion of your post, you lost me. Regarding CLECs, there should be know subordination of dial-up customers since there won't be any dial-up customers competing for the limited unassigned IP addresses. JMO.

Frank,

Thanks for your cont'd efforts here, particularly on this issue.
