Reading Chris and Emile provides me with enormous insight into the early days of Christianity. I'ver come at length to think that the murder of Stephen (Acts) should be considered self-defense by the Sanhedrin. Too bad that Emile wasn't around to be tried by those guys. Emile has all the attributes of a saint except holiness. If you read much about the early martyrs it is clear that many of them went out of their way to annoy and irritate the authorities and the poor Jewish and Roman bureaucrats just couldn't take it anymore. Chris is relatively mild and pitiful. Ignorant, annoying, ranting, irrational. Had a dog like that one time. Hated to have to put him down, but he just stood there yapping until I couldn't stand it any more.
