Pesatori did not get promoted - this is the first time he has not reported to the CEO. In the re-shuffle all of the product heads are one step away from the CEO - probably one of the reasons that Rose left.

But Pesatori did a very good job operationally at Tandem. People I know who have worked with him over the years say that he is an extremely effective manager with a deep grasp of detail who also can delegate effectively.

I think your friend may have been put off by his fancy suits and italian accent - he is not cut from the silicon valley executive mold. But his record speaks for itself - he has been a capable senior executive in a number of difficult situations.
