That's the way I've always read the numbers. When you bought your 9150 and 10850 share blocks they listed the transactions as sells.

From looking at the numbers, my summation is that when activity picks up in the stock the spread widens.(rather than the other way) However, I do not feel that the mm's can always maintain their usual screw the public spreads when things get crazy such as yesterday. I saw a few trades go over where they bought some shares right at the top at .45 and immediately the b/a dropped. But you can bet your bottom dollar they are going to get theirs, eventually.
We have repeatedly warned new investors coming on board not to place market orders when the spread is 4 to 5 cents. No reason IMO to ever pay more than a 2 cent spread. If your order isn't filled just wait it out.
Don't you know that all the good ole boys over at Knight Securities NITE appreciate that comment: IMO they are the bulwark maintaining the large spreads since they are the major market maker and they are primarily responsible for the trading and the spreads, has it hurt the share price and interest in the stock, a resounding. yes.........gregor
