I think Asus is one of the top volume retail motherboard producers, and probably number one in revenue terms. PC-Chips is a well known low-end motherboard manufacturer and has been ranked in the past as the biggest volume producer (they are notorious for putting misleading labels on chips). There are also manufacturers that do a lot of contract work for top PC OEMs such as FIC. Intel might not be the biggest volume producer, although they sell for much higher prices.
