Eighteen years ago today i was going real broke real fast ... remember the 21% interest rates? ... i went from a position in which i could easily cash up and retire to one of massive negative net worth ... didn't like it much, even less when my woman left ... some bleak days there, for sure ..... but the few years following were filled with experiences i wouldn't have had with an asset cushion .... like Piaf says, 'non, je ne regrette rien'. One day that summer i was following a motorcycle on a country road and noticed something being blown in its wake - turned out to be five- and ten-dollar bills .... i went straight to the liquor store, bought one expensive bottle of wine .... i still smile thinking of that .... had lots of wine before and since, but it's not the same.
