. . . . . . . . . STATE OF THE THREAD ADDRESS. . . . . . . . . .

The HOME thread was started on December 1, 1999, and is now 6 months old. About 1515 current SI members have us bookmarked at this time. This means there are 15 to 18 thousand regular non-member lurkers, depending on the estimates you believe.
[CORRECTED:]

SUMMARY OF ACHIEVMENTS

The collective wisdom of the thread has led to in-depth discussion on market and sector trends, which brought about some of my out-on-a-limb predictions. The WHOLE of our thread has proven to be greater than the sum of the parts or contributors. We have all learned much from one another. And we have improved our trading strategies.

Our big trading days can be viewed by searching 'this subject only' for the word "HIGHLIGHTS". Our long portfolios have outperformed the best performing mutual funds during the first quarter of 99. Our untraded Long Port 1.0 ended the first quarter up over 100 percent, compared to the top mutual fund, which was up 56 percent in the same period. That same portfolio can be found in two parts. . . and keep in mind that we SOLD THE INTERNETS on April 15, so we would have had plenty of cash at this point to be buying them back at bargain prices, should this have been a real mutual fund:

Our position trades have yielded as much as 1200 percent. Our momentums have given us doubles and triples in single days. Our trading accuracy is second to none ANYWHERE. . . not just on SI. . .to help stake that claim, I recently issued a challenge which illustrates this trading accuracy here: Message 9763669

We saved ourselves from MAJOR portfolio losses by accurately predicting the top of high-techs and internets TO THE DAY, illustrated here: Message 9891210

We have dabbled in other forms of trading as well. From trading on the OTC, stocks like PLCOP. . .currently up about 500 percent from where it was picked. . . to swing-shorting DCLK from 101 to a low of 81 and cover call at 85 today, yielding about a 17 to 20 point gain since just yesterday.

CREDITS

We on the HOME thread are all privileged to have a number of very experienced traders to trade along side. . .They are generous in sharing their expertise with us on a daily basis. . We are proud to benefit from all-around trading veteran William Jepsen, who ACCURATELY called the bottom of oil before it quickly rebounded nearly double. . .very unusual in that arena. . .or the many undervalued sleeper stocks that he led us into that yielded doubles, triples and more. His take on American markets keeps us all in check on a daily basis. Thanks, William.

Or devoted resident Technical Analyst, Kevin Shea, who has developed a remarkably ACCURATE method for predicting the absolute bottom on Initial Public Offerings. . . most of which, their turnaround was predicted to the very hour or dollar of the turnaround. Thanks, Kevin.

We have members "behind-the-scenes" that keep us clued into daily market and sector trends, market-maker positions, Wall Street buzz, trading irregularities, rumors, legalities, competitive intelligence and more. . .This is just part of the sort of expansion our website will include. . . but without me in the middle of each bit of information. . .

I could go on and on discussing attributes of those SI members that have worked hard to make this thread a success. Since I benefit most here from the collective contributions of this assembly, I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to everyone that has so much as posted a timely news story or alerted us to movement. . or shared your DD. . .or had a kind word of encouragement to others here on the HOME thread.

STATISTICS

HOME thread:
[CORRECTED:] HOME thread showed up on the first 150 Hot Subjects list on Jan. 31, 1999. . debuting at number 95. The next list came out four months later on June 1, 1999. We then moved up to number 62.

Remember, the higher up the ladder, the larger and longer established the threads. . . so the top positions take LOTS of bookmarks. . . and there are actually very few threads on SI with such upward momentum.

According to the bookmarking figures for the HOME thread, we are growing steadily at a rate of about 10 to 12 percent per month.

FISHING Thread:
The FISHING thread made it on the Top 100 Hot Subjects on Silicon Investor for the first time on June 1. The SI Hot Subjects list is a tough list to get on, since it has subjects like Dell, Compaq, AOL, Microsoft, etc., etc

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE:

We have many plans for spinning off a number of ventures which are designed to give us an additional edge over other stock traders. I won't release any such plan, until everything gels. . . for website. . .it must meet my standards for quality, value, usefulness, reliability, ease-of-use and ultimate advantage over other traders.

UPCOMING PUBLICATIONS

Over the months I have been researching and writing a series of books for the online trader that elaborate in far greater detail, many of the disciplines and strategies we have developed here. But unlike generalized "how to" books, this will get into specifics that are relevant to today's trading. . . sort of an illustrated extension of the posting I do here regularly. . . same twisted slant and no-nonsense perspective on the market that has been the hallmark of our success.

In addition, there will be regularly published updates to those same
manuals. . .which will include in-depth and standardized [bad with the good] DD on actual companies that are worthwhile on popular trading stocks . . . Specialists will be consulted in any areas beyond my expertise. And we will make every attempt to keep all instruction in a well-organized easy-to-read and easy-to-follow manner.

The Online Trader Series, will be the first set of installment books. More sets will follow. The most immediate installments will be:

Introduction to Online Trading [mixed media]
Intelligent Due Diligence
Internet High-Fliers
Trading the Next-Generation Internet
The Online Trader's Dictionary

Future editions within the Online Trader Series will include:

Volatile Stocks and Momentum Plays
Successful Trading on the OTC
Undervalued Gems and Sleepers
The Online Position Trader
The Event-Driven Swing Trader
Keep Your Day Job [Mixed-Basket Trading]
Profitable Daytrading From Home
Successful Short-sell Trading
Trading With $2,500 Or Less
The Online Trader's Resource Guide [mixed-media]

A book of Trading Secrets will most likely follow soon afterward. . . with others on the drawing board, including an "Investor Series" similar to the Trader Series above.

Anyone with publisher contacts with successful track records may contact me at my email address on my profile here: Member 4193368

WHY PUBLISH?

The plan is that as I get these books out, I will not need to repeat myself so often. . . but can refer to a trading style on a particular issue and everyone will know exactly what I am talking about. . . and newbies won't feel so lost. At the same time, by selling these manuals, I can financially justify my full-time status here.

This is all as an extension to what we have now on the HOME thread, and not a replacement for it. . . until we find ourselves in a more permanent home. . .whether that be under the Silicon Investor umbrella or our own.

I need to hear about successful trades on a regular basis at the close of the day. . . this way I have regular data on the effectiveness of various strategies as applied to others, not just to myself. . . if it begins to clutter up our HOME, then I will start a thread for nothing but posting closed positions.

All of this of course will coincide completely with the multi-faceted community-oriented information-sensitive website. . . putting us on the same page, regardless of the trading style each of us prefer.

Finally. . .

We have specialists, technicians and an abundance of good-hearted folks here on the HOME thread. We have made gains with consistency and accuracy, outperforming perhaps ANY thread in SI history.

All in all, the state of the THREAD is GOOD.

. . . . . . . . . [aw, get over it. . .tongue is in cheek here]

Thanks to all,

Rande Is
