A great quote from a letter to the editor to Red Herring (7/99 issue). If this doesn't describe Qualcomm's trek, I don't know what does. The letter is in regards to Clayton Christensen's column (also his book which you all should read, go to amazon and buy it) about disruptive technologies.

Machiavelli summed up their predicament best: "There is nothing more difficult to plan, more doubtful of success, nor more dangerous to manage that the creation of a new system. For the Initiator has the enmity of all who would profit by the preservation of the old institution, and merely lukewarm defenders in those who would gain by the new."

Submitted by Gary L. Benton to RH editor.

Cheers to Irwin, Andy, and all the Qualcomm employees, past and present! And to Gregg Powers and George Gilder who encouraged us to stick with the vision. Gregg and George continue to provide facts and guidance through all the B.S. generated by the enmity of the GSM and TDMA world. GSM is Toast, period.
