I understand it was a reference to ADX, but instead of using the usual >30 is trending, you used the 10-15 to get in at the "start", I wondered if this worked on all stocks or just the S&P 500 you trade.

overfitting might exist, but in your case you presented a method to determine if you are in main trend, our eyeballs are often fooled and we often don't look at every occurance on every stock. That is when backtesting helps. The method you presented could be put into a formula and the computer could scan all stocks in your database to determine how effective it is. I would think you might find yourself in a basing stock at a 10-15 area. You aren't overfitting just testing. You said it was start of trend.
