Tony I agree with the general concept of 5% etc. I have seen and used similar arguments before. I thin the difference is not even cost but rather intel's monoply hold on the market. That what bothers box-makers more than cost. amd is coming not only with cheaper alternative technology but also as a monopoly braker. I also agree with on p** contest. I was always for discussing pros and cons rather than "we will crush" attitude. Regards -Albert

You have hit the nail on the head Albert. The box makers want INTC to have one or two competitors to weaken INTC's position relative to themselves. The problem for AMD/Cyrix is, they don't want to be the customers of the alternatives (except for Compaq). They would prefer a competitor take the risks so they could get the best of both worlds (benefits from the "Intel Inside" program - both dollars and mindshare - and lower prices and demands from Intel). We'll see what happens.
