PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 3, 1999--Viasoft Inc. (Nasdaq NM:
VIAS) announced Thursday support of the XML (eXtensible Markup
Language) standard with the updated release of the Viasoft Rochade(TM)
repository.
This current release marks phase one of Viasoft's strategy to
support the Open Information Model (OIM), and delivers the benefits of
an open data exchange between Rochade, the Microsoft Repository and
all other participating repository or tool vendors' products based on
OIM.
By moving beyond proprietary exchange formats to the XML
standard, meta data information can be leveraged and shared across a
large number of sources, including databases, languages, modeling
tools, data extraction tools and business intelligence tools.
This interoperability between meta data sources, tools and
repositories facilitates the building of complex, powerful solutions
such as data warehouse applications.

In addition to supporting Microsoft's interchange format (XIF),
this phase one release provides XML exchange support for native
Rochade models (VXF). Subsequent phases will provide support for OMG's
XML Metadata Interchange (XMI) format.
XML is the data/meta data exchange standard created by the World
Wide Web Consortium that is quickly becoming the overwhelming leader
for the exchange of meta data.
