SanDisk Will Supply Panasonic With
MultiMediaCards for New Panasonic Digital Video
Camera

Business Wire - June 03, 1999 11:00

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 3, 1999--

Removable, Reusable Flash Memory Card Allows Video Camera To Also Function As A
Digital Still Camera

SanDisk Corporation (Nasdaq:SNDK) announced today that it will supply Panasonic
Corporation with MultiMediaCards for sale with Panasonic's new NV-C3 digital video
camera which was introduced today.

A 4 megabyte (MB) SanDisk MultiMediaCard will be included with the sale of every
NV-C3 digital video camera.

The MultiMediaCard, which was co-invented by SanDisk and Siemens AG, is a very
small size flash memory card that adds a major new feature to digital video cameras -- it
gives them the capability to also be used as digital still cameras. Still images from the
camera can be captured and stored on the MultiMediaCard and then be transported on the
removable card to PCs, printers and other electronic systems.

Eli Harari, SanDisk CEO and president, said, "As a leader in the camcorder market,
Panasonic is setting a major new trend by using this exciting new storage technology in its
video cameras. We consider this to be a very important design win for the
MultiMediaCard. The SanDisk MultiMediaCard is quickly becoming very popular with
video camera manufacturers because it allows them to add this valuable digital still camera
feature to their cameras. We believe that in the future virtually all camcorders will have
this digital camera capability built-in and will use a removable storage card such as the
MultiMediaCard."

SanDisk sells MultiMediaCards, which are about the size of a postage stamp, in capacities
ranging between 4 and 32MB. Its higher capacity SanDisk-branded MultiMediaCards will
go on sale in retail outlets starting in June. New SanDisk MultiMediaCards with capacities
as high as 64MB are planned for introduction later this year. This year, SanDisk also
plans to introduce MultiMediaCard adapters, which will allow consumers to easily move
images, audio and data from portable electronic products to desktop PCs and laptops.

The Panasonic NV-C3 digital video camera is the world's smallest and lightest digital
video camera. In fine mode resolution, about 25 images can be captured on the camera's
4MB MultiMediaCard. In normal and economy modes, 50 and 100 images respectively
can be captured on the card. The camera will be available in July. Pricing has not been
determined.

According to market researchers at Dataquest, 3.1 million digital video cameras were sold
worldwide in 1998. They said sales will reach about 8 million units a year in 2002.

The MultiMediaCard is supported by 40 leading industry companies that belong to the
MultiMediaCard Association. Besides digital video cameras, the card is also becoming
popular in smart phones such as the Nokia 9110 Communicator and in Internet music
players including the Pontis Mplayer 3, the LG Electronics A1F and A2F MP3 players,
the Maycom Merit MP player and the DNA Pocket Digital Audio MP3 player.

SanDisk Corporation, the world's largest supplier of flash data storage products, designs,
manufactures and markets industry-standard, solid-state data, digital imaging and audio
storage products using its patented, high density flash memory and controller technology.
SanDisk is based in Sunnyvale, CA.
