Jeff,

The company still expects to deliver its software upgradeable central site modem chipsets before the end of March.

Samples? Mass production quantities? The fact that they haven't specified tells me that it's the former, not the latter.

The performance issue is likely to affect other modem makers using Rockwell's K56flex technology. Other companies may choose to offer a software fix for the problem rather than replacing entire modems, a spokesperson said.

What exactly does that mean? Is everyone writing their own code? I thought they were going to be compatible. Are some going to be "more compatible" than others? Also, how do you software fix a non-software upgradeable modem? Software on the PC? Wouldn't that be special?

That's very ambiguous, and very troubling, that is, if you're in the Rockwell camp. It sounds to me like there is a lot of bad product in the chanel. Dennis Hayes may have actually done something right this time.

Someone should call the EPA and have the Consortium named a Superfund site.
