Your post made me think of one of the best things a new CEO could do (or at least what I would do as the new CEO).
I would, right after the announcement, buy 10,000 shares of Novell. It would only be $100,000. And in negotions for the post, you could probably demand that much as a 'signing bonus', so it would be no out-of-the-pocket expense.
Then, I would immediately make a PR announcement of what I had done, and state the FACT that I was going to make money on this stock.

And with the right attitude, he (or she) would.
