OT LG: True enough. But what tends to happen is that a real estate price trend erupts in Palo Alto, then percolates throughout Silicon Valley, and then percolates up both sides of the Bay. Why? Because Silicon Valley folks who can't afford rising prices in the most desirable areas are forced to buy in others. As commuting distance is a big factor relating to real estate desirability, Silicon Valley can actually pressure prices in areas as far flung as Pleasanton, Gilroy, etc. Of course the Bay Area is very large geographically, and of course these areas removed from SV have their own economies. I am just saying that at times of RE price appreciation, SV is often times an important engine throughout the entire Bay Area. And now that thousands travel over 3 hours roundtrip from 'commuter neighborhoods' in places like Tracy, Modesto and Stockton, Silicon Valley's impact extends even further.
