Re: Sprint coverage:

I got an email from a friend about his experience with PCS. Sounds similar to your story! Check it out:

One of the guys I work with dropped his Sprint PCS for GTE digital/analog dual
mode coverage. Another one dropped his Pac Bell PCS and I used to have
Pac Bell PCS and dropped it as well. All of us now use the digital/analog
cellular technology. Pac Bell also uses CDMA technology, at least that's
what I have been told.

All of these changes were because coverage sucked. The phones had lots of neat
options but I could not drive into work and talk on the phone without dropping
a call every time. The previous place I worked had an antenna _very_ close
and I could not recieve or send calls unless I held the phone in just the
right orientation near a window.

The problem with PCS is it uses the 1.9GHz or higher frequencies and are very
suseptible to interference such as walls, cars, trees, etc. The lower
frequencies used by digital cellular and analog cellular can penetrate objects
much better.

PCS is the predominant technology (I believe) in most other parts of the
world. I just happen to think it's not quite ready for prime time here in the
U.S. yet, and unless I see some better coverage, I won't be going back to PCS
any time soon.

I do know that some people really like PCS, but I bet they don't use it as
much as I use mine or over as wide an area. Last month I had over 500 minutes
and very few dropped or lost calls. When I had my PCS phone I could not go
to Iowa to visit my folks and use that phone, however, I can with my current
cell phone.

I have had a bad experience with PCS and sos did the other two guys I work with.
