John Rose Joins Compaq's Executive Exodus

By Dan Briody, InfoWorld

Compaq (CPQ)'s mass exodus continued today as John Rose, who held the top position in Compaq's enterprise group, abruptly resigned.

Rose's departure is the latest in a series of high-level resignations and firings at Compaq, which has been cleaning house since the firing of CEO Eckhard Pfeiffer by Chairman Benjamin Rosen in April. Among those who have bolted since Pfeiffer's ouster are Chief Financial Officer Earl Mason, Senior VP of Sales and Marketing Mike Heil, and Senior VP and General Manager of Compaq Services John Rando.

Rosen sent out an all-company e-mail from the office of the chief executive this morning announcing the changes and explaining the reasons for them, as he has done for each of the resignations.

"We realize that these are major changes that raise questions about the roles and responsibilities that each of you has, and that change, for some, is difficult," the e-mail stated. "The process of realignment, however, should not distract us from our core goals and strategies. The objective of these changes is to simplify operations and improve execution. They will put Compaq in a stronger position to achieve enterprise leadership and to maintain our PC leadership."
