WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bill Clinton said Thursday he had
decided to renew U.S. trading privileges for China, a decision that is bound
to face some opposition in Congress following allegations of Chinese
nuclear spying.

The decision to renew so-called Normal Trade Relations (NTR) -- formerly
known as Most Favored Nation status -- would give Beijing the same
low-tariff access to U.S. markets enjoyed by nearly every other country in
the world.
