Positive outlook for Evolving Systems
Robertson Stephens sees second-quarter loss narrowing

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (CBS.MW) -- Evolving Systems shares jumped 11 percent Thursday afternoon after BancBoston Robertson Stephens said it expects the telecom software maker to lose only half as much as originally projected for the second quarter.

Shares rose 1/2 to 5 1/8, but are still a far cry from the level they hit when the Denver company went public last May.

Analyst Marianne Wolk also upped her rating on Evolving Systems (EVOL: news, msgs) to "long-term attractive" from "market performer."

Wolk raised her second-quarter revenue forecast to $9.8 million from $9 million and trimmed her expectation of a loss to 7 cents per share from 15 cents.

And the loss may be narrower than her revised projections.

"Several deals in Evolving System's pipeline could close earlier than expected, raising the possibility that the second quarter is closer to a loss of 3 (cents per share), significantly better than our revised forecasts," Wolk said in a research note.

Evolving Systems came up short of analysts' expectations in its first quarter as a public company, after having trouble signing up telecom companies for its service.

Evolving Systems sells a product that lets the customers of phone companies keep their phone number when switching service providers.
