Delphi Wins Design/Development Contract for Future Ford Vehicle

TROY, Mich., June 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Delphi Automotive Systems (NYSE: DPH - news) will serve as the electrical/electronic (E/E) vehicle architecture system integrator for a future Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F - news) vehicle, Delphi announced today.

Delphi Packard Electric Systems will lead the effort to design and supply the electrical system and body control modules for the redesigned Ford vehicle.

The E/E architecture design will utilize ideas and technologies Delphi showcased at this year's Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) show in Detroit.

''Winning this significant business package demonstrates Delphi's growing relationship with Ford,'' said J.T. Battenberg III, Delphi chairman, chief executive officer and president. ''Delphi has had success supplying Ford wiring in Europe and components in North America, and this future Ford vehicle allows us to demonstrate our innovative systems design capabilities and utilize some of our most advanced technologies.''

Engineers at Delphi's customer service center in Dearborn are developing a system that takes full advantage of Delphi's E/E components, subsystems and systems integration capabilities.

Delphi's recent performance in a Ford-conducted design competition was a factor in its decision to source Delphi as the E/E system integrator for this vehicle, according to David Heilman, Delphi's Ford customer champion and president of Delphi Packard Electric.

''Ford is showing a vote of confidence in Delphi technology by allowing us in at the design stage of this vehicle,'' Heilman said. ''By being involved with the customer in the design phase, we can remove mass, add flexibility to the system for future model changes and add the latest technologies.''

Delphi Automotive Systems, with headquarters in Troy, Mich., USA, is a world leader in automotive component and systems technology.
