But I think I have learned from Gregg and others that the Q gets the same royalty payments whether the flavor is WCDMA or CDMA2000.

This is true based on the current agreement.

However, my point was this: If the ITU and ETSI had pooh-poohed the converged 3-mode standard in favor of just cdma2000 (however unlikely), the Q would have been in line to receive a heftier fee.

I believe royalties will be based on patent portfolios, and although the Q has the lion's share, manufacturers will still have to pay tribute to those holding WCDMA patents such as NTT.
