I note w/interest that ngas prices surpassed $2.40 US briefly yesterday before trading down just a bit today. The following slightly dated but still timely news release concerns upcoming cash dividends to be declared by Alberta Energy (AEC.TO or AOG.NYSE), one of Canada's biggest ngas producers:

CALGARY, April 21 /CNW-PRN/ - ALBERTA ENERGY COMPANY LTD. (''AEC'') today declared a dividend of forty (40) cents per share on the Company's issued and outstanding Common Shares, unchanged from the prior year.

This dividend of approximately $50 million for current shares outstanding will be paid June 30, 1999 to shareholders of record at the close of business June 9, 1999.

AEC is one of only three Canadian senior oil and gas producers that provide a dividend to investors.
