Thank you all for your responses. I do believe that people are responsible for their own actions--but I also believe that trading on line has a particular type of insidious "hook" that can grab someone who truly believes they are making informed decisions, and who truly had no idea that their behavior had become irrational and compulsive (as did mine). If I had known that I had a gambling problem--fine. I just feel that online brokerage firms could have a computerized screening system that alerts them when a regular customer changes their trading patterns to ridiculously frequent with large losses sustained over and over--and then give them some kind of notification and even suspension from trading. You are correct--I wouldn't be complaining if I had become rich instead--but the kind of behavior I fell into was a very serious psychological condition which rendered me "out of control"--and part of the condition is that you keep attempting to remedy losses by taking larger risks (typical gambling), and, you fail to keep up with accurate and current accounting. It happened so fast, I didn't even know what hit me till it was too late. Geez--I never even buy Lotto tickets! Perhaps I am just a sore loser. I bet you, though, that soon the brokerages will have to take some action regarding this issue --because there are thousands of "victims" out there like me who are making the brokerage firms rich while they themselves lose everything. Good luck to you all! Marie
