EricP: I think you make good points. It brings forward the reality of "scalp" trading in which one is held hostage to immediate fills at the inside market. Perhaps "swing" trading offers a better alternative for the day trader. By trading on a longer time frame you have more room to execute orders within a range that provides a profitable strategy. Let us not forget that many MM's tend to ignore preferencing from discount firms which also stacks the deck against you. Some of the systems coming to the forefront tend to offer the best of both worlds - immediate confirmations along with the accessibility to automated fill systems of MM's. An example of which is deltatrader.com
