Jim,
Hi!!!

RE: Well, DELL could have made the 18 cents this quarter if it had paid closer attention to the European market. Something went wrong in Europe. Remember CPQ/DEC is relatively stronger overseas than DELL. DEC always was a stronger player overseas compared to most other US companies.

Thanks for the comments...I suppose what I am concerned here with is whether or not DELL could have made 18cents if they didnt push units into the next qt. and kept the prices up...sure they'd have lost some revenue growth...I was just wondering if DELL chose to reaaaalllly put the hurting on CPQ to throw them into a deeper ditch for the next few quarters...and, I see today that Michael addressed this weakness of CPQ with quite a bold statement...

"We see HUGE opportunities to gain share in the current environment and we are going after them full speed," Dell said in an e-mail yesterday.

I'm sure you are well aware of my fondness of his comments...making a powerful word such as "HUGE" the focus of this sentence...makes me very very very excited...
Jim....I suppose we will never know the exact answer...I was just playing around with a possible strategy....one way or the other...it looks like whatever they planned to do...it worked...Hopefully we will all see the results soon...But, I have a strong belief that the word "HUGE" is a statement to the wise...

thanks again for your comments...

Best, Kemble
