There are a number of reasons why Asians & Africans do not get osteoporosis, Blue. A few that I can think of:

1) There is a genetic link. Even in this country, white women (especially those with a slight physique) are much more likely to develop it than black women or women of Asian extraction, or men of any color.

2) Even those Asians and Africans who do not eat dairy products eat other high-calcium foods, especially soy products.

3) Life expectancy, especially in Africa, has been lower. Osteoporosis typically begins developing (or is diagnosed) in late middle age.

4) American & European white women have greater opportunity to indulge in other osteoporosis "risk factors": i.e., smoking, drinking (alcohol and soft drinks), excess protein consumption.
