Jim and Keith --

Here's the Cobra site where you'll find everything you want and then some:

ericsson.com

Jim, I'm going to defer the Siemens questions to you. All I remember about ISDN and ADSL is being told that the Germans wanted to use their ISDN lines for ADSL because so many were already installed. Maybe you or Steve Macica can explain how it's done.

Okay, I went back and dug out some notes jotted down after a friend attended a meeting with analysts in San Franciso where Cioffi and JS both spoke.

"Cioffi working hard in Germany and France. . . [they] want same lines as ISDN. CAP can't do it. Too noisy. We have developed ability to use ISDN lines. . . in Germany and France. . . ADSL hops over noise and goes on. . . CAP trampled short-wave in area. . . Amati working with GTE, Telstra/NEC-Japan, Philips Electronics, Siemens; VDSL with NEC.. . . Deployment second half '97; in first half, delivery March/April. . . delivering systems and modems. . . . Looking for more mfg. space. . . . USRX???? TI is going to develop and biggest contract will be USR. . . . TI chip programmable. . . will handle 4 modems at once. . . Cioffi very excited. . . will bring cost down. . ."

I didn't date the notes but I remember the conversation being November some time. I'm also certain I wrote down comments as being more definite than I'm sure they were given. Had I not been writing so fast I would have included qualifiers, "It's likely that. . ." "We're hoping to get. . ." "If all goes as planned. . . ."

The main point being the ISDN/ADSL comments in reference to Germany and France.

That's it for tonight --

Pat
