USR had to reduce the power to meet FCC regulations as we know. Thus
we're told we can only receive 53K instead of 56K under ideal
conditions. As I understand it, this is achieved by code
(software/firmware), and can be changed later via a download. With this
in mind.just how much is the x2 code limiting the ability to get more
download speed? What improvement will we see when full power is kicked
in?

Scrapps,

My typical connection is about 44kps. It is correct that the signal strength may be changed via software. I have no idea if that strength diifference will give me better than 44kps. Possibly, this is the limit of my POTS or possibly I may get 46kps. In anycase, the 44kps is so much better than the 26 kps I was getting prior with a 28.8 modem. The fact is x2 works and it works well. USRX did not "ship cheap chips".
