Mark,

Thanks for your reply.

RE:>>VUI is interesting, but you know it will never be as useful as a sweet blend of voice and graphic.>>
I agree that voice and graphics when combined will be better than voice only. But - Personally, I hate looking at a small screen and I just can't see the general public going to small screens just for the "graphics" unless you are talking about short text messages. The wireless phones now that offer text messaging (with screen) are fine for short messages or caller ID, but I can't see a screen on a phone anymore useful IMO. I have been wrong many times before, so I wouldn't be surprised if I was wrong on this too:(

RE>>So, is the Portico model a stop gap solution? I think so.>> I think it may be a stop gap measure only in the current configuration of Portico.
Some of my thoughts on the subject:
1. For GMGC to overcome this stop gap solution, they will need to license the VUI/agent technology out to the carriers or internet companies (see 2 and 3 below).
2. The licensing fee will have to be set up so that the general public won't mind paying an extra $10-20 per month (maybe lower). Let GMGC become the MSFT OS of the teleco / internet world for voice. GMGC will have to stay away from the "premium" service.
3. GMGC will need to co-locate mini-NOCs with the telcos and internet companies. This has many advantages IMO to include cost savings.
4. I would rather have all of my information (ie telephone numbers, addressses, etc) at a NOC rather than on a telephone. It would be more secure. What would happen if you lost your phone with all of your contacts (to include unlisted numbers). Also, by having a VUI at a NOC, the price of the phone would remain relatively low. It would also be nice to be able to pick up any phone and call MagicTalk or Portico without having to make sure you have your specific cell phone with its own chip (and your information).
5. With carriers such as ATT who now claim no roaming or long distance charges and includes a set amount of time on the air for a set price, Portico in its current configuration (pricing) will not succeed (IMO). Because of this, I think it would be wise for GMGC to license the technology to other companies, get a set price, let the other companies worry about the pricing to consumers, and sit back and enjoy the revenues (and of course work on improving the product for future generations).

Sorry about the incoherent rambling. I just reread my message and it really is incoherent. Oh, well. My mind must be on my 2 day vacation coming up.

Take care,
Kurt
