I think the big northern europeans are derived from cattle herding people - but they went for bulk because the heat economy of bulky bodies (North = cold), while the Nilotic went for ectomorphic physiques to handle the heat dispersion required of those in the equatorial heat. The Inuit are fat-eating Northerners rather stocky for their heights. The biggest group in Hawaii are Polynesians who tend toward giantism in the ruling classes (alii or arii).
The consumption of lots of protein and calcium through puberty is perhaps necessary for the human to get the full growth of which its capable. Postwar Japanese are much larger than prewar. Whites used to be referred to as "stinking of butter" now dairy products sell, although many Japanese are lactose intolerant.
