Macrobiotic diet was developed by Michio Kushi (sp?) a Japanese practitioner of Zen Buddhism. They don't eat meat, sugar, alcohol. As I remember, the diet is 4 parts whole grains (brown rice, millet) to 3 parts vegetable. Seasoned with miso or soy. They do eat a little fruit in the summer. I followed the macrobiotic diet for several months when I was 20, or so, I had terrible hay fever, and my allergies cleared up while I was on it.

Macrobiotic diet is a lot like traditional Japanese diet, but vegetarian, and using whole grains, no sugar.
