I would not draw any parallels, so to speak, between the hundreds of experimental attempts at SMP and the widespread availability of both hardware and software to support Intel's architecture. The savings in design costs, the reliability improvements and speed improvements of built-in SMP support should not be trivialized as you are doing. There is zero chance that any server maker will throw out all of their current designs and all of their current software to step backwards in time to build a customized solution around K6 or M2 or anything like them. Is it your view that the 80386 had built-in 3D graphics because systems using it could display 3D graphics? Once again, you are grasping for straws, Albert.

Let me explain briefly why even a custom solution would not survive as a server using K6 and, at the same time, go on record as saying that the K6 will have the floating point performance of a 133 Mhz Pentium notebook. Nobody is going to build a server around some legacy system designed to optimize 16 bit integer based code.

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR: Start to believe what AMD is publicly saying about the K6's positioning as an upgrade processor for the existing PCI bus systems. There are plenty of reasons for this and you've apparently missed them all. Consider, too, that they always exaggerate claims.
