And now Adtran teases us with the "Holy Grail" of DSL.

They claim high speed access up to 30,000 feet from the CO up to 384 kb/s with a new flavor of xDSL called MDSL. Enjoy. I anticipate this will lead to just a little discussion here.

"Get Ready For Yet Another DSL Flavor"

Adtran Inc. is rolling out a new DSL version it maintains will
ease some of the distance limitations thwarting deployment of
the high-speed access technology.

Its Total Reach multi-bit-rate DSL (MDSL), to be unveiled
during next week's SuperComm show in Atlanta, will let
service providers offer symmetric DSL services to customers
located up to 30,000 feet away from their carrier's central
office, according to Kevin Morgan, Adtran's director of
product management.

Speeds of up to 1 Mbps at distances of up to 15,000 feet can
be supported by the Total Reach DSL platform, but 384-Kbps
access will likely be the "sweet spot" targeted by most ISPs
adopting the technology, Morgan said. -- Chuck Moozakis
