Acer Group, IBM To Announce $10B Alliance Get Quote, Company Info: IBM from Bloomberg News
TAIPEI (June 4) -- Acer Group, Taiwan's biggest maker of personal computers, said it will hold a joint press conference with International Business Machines Corp. on Monday to announce that the companies are stepping up their relationship.
Acer, already IBM's largest supplier in Taiwan, refused to give details, though analysts said the companies will announce a mutual supply agreement worth $10 billion over the next seven years.
Shares of Acer Inc., the group's flagship, surged almost 20 percent in four days as investors bet the deal will bolster earnings. Today, they jumped 5.5 percent to NT$57.50 ($1.80), the highest close since March 1998.
Acer reported its sales in April rose 39 percent to NT$10.9 billion, an improvement it credited mainly to increased orders from IBM. It relies on the U.S. company for about two-fifths of its sales.
IBM officials weren't available for comment. |
