17" iMac shown by Umax , available in the Fall ?

Remember when you thimked it couldn't be ?

" TAIPEI, Taiwan--What's being shown on the floor at
Computex? An Apple iMac with a 17-inch screen that
pivots on a tripod, that's what--among a host of other
head-turning and penny-pinching designs.

While not part of an official Apple presentation, the large, Bondi Blue iMac, which proudly displays the bite-missing Apple logo,
was one of many items which could appear on store shelves
by the third or fourth quarter in the United States. And, while
promises can't be made on the Apple machine, "Web pads,"
wall computers, phones with Internet screens, Pentium TV
set-top boxes, more ultraslim notebooks, and even iMac
colored monitors are all likely headed toward stores.

" The iMac mystery
The mystery iMac was featured in a display for Umax,
an erstwhile Macinotosh clone maker.

Umax was not
selling the computer. Rather, the company employed
the computer to power a scanner demonstration. "We
just bought it," a representative said, as he tried to steer
onlookers to displays of handheld devices. "
