OK--we were just 3 years early. But so was George... George Gilder (July 1996 newsletter) : 'From telephone and computer networks to microprocessors and software, today's information economy is brimming with obsolescent architectures based on scarce bandwidth, free transistors, and free watts. The new paradigm will be based on the runaway expansion of bandwidth, outpacing Moore's Law by at least a factor of ten. But watts will become scarce, from lithium batteries feeding mobile computers, digital cellular phones and undersea fiber amplifiers, and solar power fueling satellites. The bandwidth bottleneck will move FROM THE NETWORK TO THE BUSES AND I-O INTERFACES of the computer and no outpouring of watts will suffice to dissolve it.'
