OK. Lets get a few things straight:
Paper rock scissors. Sabers rock Phasers.
A Saber can cut a rock and a Phaser can obliterate it. So lets loose the rock. Saber or Phaser then? I tell you what, we'll go a good 30 meters apart and start firing. I'll use the old "continious beam/disintetgrate" setting and wave my hand once in a nice sweeping pattern. I win. (and no, the shield ability Vader used in cloud city does not last for more than one round)
...and ST ships can go faster than the M Falcon with Q's help. I sense a LARGE distubance in the force - no sh*te <oh no! not another braveheart reference too>.
so as the "man" said... you should always carry a phaser.
