bread does not "lower" your blood alcohol content. Nothing does but time. It takes time for your body to make new blood, which it is doing all the time, and for the sugars to be digested. When you are drinking and eating something rather heavy, like pasta, bread, etc...it slows down the rate at which the alcohol is absorbed but it is absorbed---just not as quick as when you don't eat, hence getting sh*tfaced.
