Do you honestly think that people regard the Celeron as more "prestigious" than the K6-2? Most people who buy a PC couldn't care less about "Intel Inside". I, however would buy a Celeron PC because I know what FPU is. Do you think the average consumer does? And if they do, wouldn't that mean the K7 would be in 99% of PC's sold this time next year?
