I don't think that the average consumer knows the difference between a Celeron and K6-2 but does know "Intel Inside" and would feel better about buying it because it's safer and he's less likely to have his neighbor laugh at him. And therefore it is safer for the box maker. The box maker may be willing to ship K6-something if it's cheaper and has something to make it appealing. But Celeron has taken away the "cheaper" and K7 will take away the "appealing."
