Rod,

I enjoy reading your posts because they are well thought out with
reasonable conclusions. I would like to comment on a couple of
your last posts. The MMX extensions are an excellent example of
Intel using their superior position in the market to keep AMD in
a following position. AMD doesn't have the time or resources to
be chasing all of these Intel innovations. If the Flash market ever
becomes a true commodity market like DRAM's, AMD's days will then be
over. Until then, AMD can survive while they chase Intel and hope
for small volumes. In regards to your question about Intel in
the enterprise/supercomputing environment, I believe Intel has the
hardware performance (especially in the future .18um world) to match
any of the existing companies. What they lack is an operating system
to displace UNIX and others. Right NOW, NT is not getting the job
done. But in the future, Msft will be a big player here too. That's
why HP has teamed up with Intel on the P7 architecture. HP realizes
Intel's process/manufacturing strengths and wants to share HP's
strengths in enterprise systems. Intel will eventually be the
dominant force in enterprise/supercomputing in the next 5 years.

Make It So,
Yousef
