Tad, his explanation back on the conference call of last Q definitely had echoes of Nikita Kruschev's "we will bury you". The way I interpreted it, the only thing that was missing was the sound of the shoe pounding on the table. The reason why we never launched and they never launched was MAD - mutual assured destruction. Outside of the lunatic fringe in the SAC who provided the inspiration for Dr. Strangelove, everyone knew there was no palatable victory to be had. As a group, these players don't seem to grasp that concept as much as they should. How that fits in with the primary source of competitive advantage for these products--lowering costs--I don't know. But what you're saying about the net effect - absolutely. It's like trying to kill a fly with a sledgehammer. Maybe more like trying to kill a fly with a sledgehammer only the fly happens to be sitting on your big toe. You'll kill the fly, but how much pain are you willing to undergo and how long will it take for the ache to go away? Best Regards, Tom
