Mark, Yogi, all,
<<Interesting that Yogi was picking Quantum to croak. I think he's probably right. Qntm is being split. Why? Maybe croak is not the right word. Maybe it will be assimilated.>>
I think that that is right. They will do to the drive business what they did to the heads business at some point, unless they can make more consistent money in it again. I don't know when. I would guess that a company like MKE/Panasonic would be interested in assimilating it, if only to supply drives for their digital VCRs, and to keep MKE factories humming. Vertical integration can be a plus if done right. Or I suppose that either SEG or MXTR could be interested, since they wouldn't be buying any bricks, just design and sales people, so it would be relatively cheap to buy them, and cheap to streamline or close them down. Not that they need them, they just need the market share to be freed up.

However, I'm sure everyone remembers that WDC was probably the biggest winner of the SEG/CNR merger, at least for a year or two. So with that memory, who wants to be the buyer, and have all the headaches?
