<Do you beleive that this wireless product would compete effectivly with T's @Home product? Could it do local telephone services? >
MCI and Sprint believe fixed wireless could provide local phone access. AT&T also has an iniative called Project Angel which I presume must include some MMMDS/LMDS license holdings.
Now, you ask me if I think fixed wireless will compete effectively and I'd tell you it'll probably only serve a small but profitable segment of the market. Probably one T would rather not loose, but you can't have everything. In the end, service will pull the customer, not the method of delivery.
T's strength will be full service and hopefully quality of service. They have an uphill battle to reclaim customer cofidence from previous cable TV service quality standards. But, their ability to bundle many services in one bill will be very interesting.
Do you remember Sprint had a big press day where they said they would begin offering service on a sturcture that no longer looked at traditional billing methods such as one phone line costs x. Instead, they would measure bandwidth and extra services to determine cost. This would allow people to dynamically shape their communications need. It was a pretty complicated story, but one that was very interesting.
Well, the full service aspect of T will be very compelling if they can bring it off. I think T has more to prove about their ability to service the market than their ability to lay a network that works.
