Re: "are you going to hold or go long bonds when you're inundated daily with stories like below? <g>"

I'm not positive but is it correct that tobacco has a greater weighting than pc's or computer's or technology in the CPI? And if so do you suppose those commodities seemingly more essential than tobacco would bring the CPI down to a more realistic index reading? Isn't that why Dell is suffering because it's ASP is lower due to lower pc pricing to (CPI) consumers?

Now why do you suppose we keep hearing things like: "The FED should be more ahead of the curve but usually lags the bond market in raising rates" when there is a discrepancy such as above? I wonder when was the last time these indexes were adjusted to modern times and events?

It seems to me that the FED is only interested in how much influence it can muster at the time a government report is released? What with all the readjusting that goes on weeks or months after the fact.

It doesn't take rocket science to figure that the next CPI's core may be lower cause tobacco prices have remained steady since their last hike and since that is what caused core to rise last time. Maybe the airline fares will bump it up a little but if they switched the tobacco weighting with technology the economy, the bond traders and the FED will at least have a truer reading to make it's judgements IMO.<wink>

In summary would it be fair to say that Dell (and it's share holders) is suffering while contributing to a lesser inflationary environment because the federal agencies are not giving it's products a more realistic justification?<g> I'm not implying that the FEDS are out to get Dell here.<right eye wink> It's just my opinion of the inequities.<ggg>
