Josh Bernoff, principal TV analyst at Forrester Research, said Wink has an advantage over potential competitors because its technology is already in place, and broadcasters and cable operators are cooperating.

The drawback, he says, is that the graphics viewers see are "extremely ugly" - simple text without the colorful and vivid pictures that viewers expect these days. "Right now, what they're doing is a dress rehearsal," he says.
