She said that there was an eerie calm, and then "BANG, BOOM, RUMBLE". The house I grew up in had a bay window in the front room, and I used to like to sit in it and watch thunderstorms. For awhile, the median strip in front of the house was an open ditch, and there would be ferocious cataracts of water surging out of the storm sewers into it. Very impressive, and very cozy to watch from safety. But it is like with snow: now that I am older, I look upon most snowfalls with dread, and now that I am older, and have had to drive during thunderstorms, I am very aware of the danger to those caught outside. Spoils the pure enjoyment... |
