Zeev,

The SOX is rightfully schizophrenic. It's got a good "smattering" of both equipment and chip makers.

The "commodity" chip makers, for the most part, are still suffering from a capacity glut. I don't see that ending any time soon. Yet the specialty chip makers especially communications asics or dsps can't grow capacity fast enough.

Similar dichotomy exists for leading edge equipment makers vs the total sector.

I think the 300mm announcements have given some of the institutions cause for second thoughts. Especially those that totally dumped their equipment holdings. These guys get to miss the lion's share of the "easy" money or they get back in and get back in quickly.

I'm prepared to leave my semi equipment investments untouched for 3 years or more if need be. And I don't plan to sell anything for less than a double. For most, I'm expecting much better than that. This time, I made it in before the institutions. That's half the battle.

I do expect to win the war.

So I haven't answered your specific questions other than to state my belief, that if your time horizon is long enough, now is a superb time to buy.

Ian.
